Want to start working but unable to land a job? You know the job is for you but you don’t have the relevant experience the employer is seeking. This is a big problem faced by most freshers as they don’t have the necessary experience on paper and employers give preference to candidates who have experience.Getting a job in this scenario can be very frustrating!! but fret not… Instead of getting upset, you need to carry out an effective job search.

First of all, decide what you actually want to do

I know you are ready to do whatever comes your way as getting a job is the only priority for you right now.But it doesn’t mean you do anything.Determine what your areas of interest, your strengths and talents are and write them down. Now decide what are the jobs you are willing to do.

Volunteer

If nobody is hiring you due to lack of experience, don’t worry… Just volunteer for a position that is similar or related in some way to your dream job.Though it may not pay you, volunteering and giving time to this a few hours a week may add some value to your resume.

Apply for Internships

Every college graduate looks for internships so instead of interning at a place that gives you stipend for fetching coffee, look for internships related to the field a job in.Most companies count relevant internships as experience if it lasted for a substantial time like 3 months to a year.So start looking for internships to gain exposure in the real time professional world.

Start Freelancing

If you are a fresh college graduate, start looking for some freelancing projects because it will add to your experience.Register on websites like craigslist or freelancer and start taking up a few projects.Freelancing brings you some free pocket money as well as experience.

Start applying in small companies

Instead of applying at the big companies, start looking for small or start-up companies as their management are more willing to train you instead of a company with a big set up.You need to learn and get trained. This can only be possible with a small set up as the big companies mostly look for experienced candidates.

Get Certified

In order to land a job, you may be required to have certain technical knowledge. So get the necessary certifications to get through the technical requirements of the employer.Get basic computer certifications and Tally if you are applying for accountant jobs. Or get certified in Java and coding if you are looking for jobs in IT sector.

Highlight your skills instead of your work experience

Instead of filling your CV with chronological details, Lay stress on your skill sets.Job requirements list is similar to a wishlist as nobody can possess all of them.If you can show that you can do a job, the employer might give you a chance even if you don’t have the relevant experience. If, for example, you are looking for a teaching job but don’t have experience, then create headings such as: can explain properly, management skills and communicate effectively. This kind of resume is called a functional CV.

Flaunt your University projects or academic experience

If you were an active participant in all the extra curricular activities at your college, Now is the time to flaunt them. The clubs you were a part of, the events you organized, the movements that you volunteered for or university projects that show you can manage budgets. All this can be added to the resume as this can show the employer what inbuilt skills you possess.

Start your own thing

Start your own blog if you want to be a content writer. As it will be a documentation of your work and will definitely count as an experience. Start a website or build an app if you are a developer as it will show that you are capable of hosting or maintaining an app or website. But make sure to get decent traffic to your site.

Build a Good Resume and keep updating it with additional points and skills

If you are flexible, can work on weekends or anything that maybe of value to the employer, do mention it in your resume. fresh college graduates with presentation skills and public speaking skills are highly valued by the companies nowadays. As for updating your skills, you can never have enough of them. You have to keep learning new skills if you want to grow whether you are a fresher or someone with experience.Last but not the least, make an effective and precise resume that can make you sell yourself.
