1.Jammu and Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh are the fastest expanding State economies in 2015-16, according to a new series of gross State domestic product data with 2011-12 as the base year published by the Central Statistics Office.
2.Top 5 Largest state Economies are-
CSIR Has been ranked the 9th largest public research institution in the world
1.An autonomous public organization of India Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has been ranked ninth in the world. The institute has been ranked ninth amongst a total of 1,207 government institutions, according to the Scimago Institutions ranking World Report 2017.
2.The ranking (Government Institutions) was topped by the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Railway ministry signs two MOUs with Switzerland
1.Two MOUs have been signed after high-level talks between pm NarendraModi and Doris Leuthard,The president of Swiss confederation.
2.The first MoU was signed between Ministry of Railways and Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, and Communications of the Swiss Confederation for technical cooperation in Rail Sector.
The second MoU was signed with Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) to help the Konkan Railway in establishing the George Fernandes Institute of Tunnel Technology (GFITT) at Goa.
US bans its citizens from travelling to N Korea.
1. The United States banned its citizens from travelling to N Korea months after death of an American student who had been imprisoned in the country for 17 months
2. Violators of this ban could face 10 years imprisonment
Sweden’s ‘saab’ to partner with Adani group to make fighter jets in India.
1. Sweden’s Saab will tie up with India’s Adani Group to bid for a contract to make fighter aircraft in India
2.The partnership will equip the Indian military with single-engine jets to be produced locally under Prime Minister NarendraModi’s “Make-in-India” initiative.
SEBI banned orion capital and orion banking from securities markets
1.Markets regulator SEBI barred Orion Capital as well as Orion Broking from the securities markets for 10 years for failing to address several investor grievances .
2.The nature of investor complaints received against both the firms are predominantly on non-settlement of the funds and securities.
National nutrition day to be observed in country throughout the week from 1st-7th September
1.Theme of the national nutrition week is “optimal & young child feeding practices: Better child health”.
2. Basic aim of this annual event is to increase awareness on importance of nutrition for health which has an impact on development & productivity
India and China have jointly opposed farm subsidies
1. India and china in a joint proposal to WTO(world trade organization) have asked for elimination of agriculture subsidies given by developing countries
2.The proposal aims at counteracting the targeting by some developed countries on developing countries that give farm subsidy to their farmers.These developed nations want to retain their subsidies while banning it for developing nations.
